 Manufacturing R&D Engineer

geCKo Materials is looking for a Manufacturing R&D Engineer to join our growing team and expand the capabilities of our exciting and novel technology. This role requires an individual capable of developing innovative solutions to complex problems and will involve significant research, design, and prototyping work. This position is a fit for an engineer who enjoys deep research and pursuing complex engineering challenges, and is also capable of conducting the hands-on work of fully carrying concepts from ideation to realization since there will be a requirement to develop custom tooling, fixtures, and machinery for use on the manufacturing line. This is an “impact job,” meaning there will be ample opportunity to effect changes and see the results. We seek an individual who is creative, ambitious, well-versed in a variety of engineering skills, but is especially passionate about manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and implement continuous process improvements to existing manufacturing operations

  • Build products to meet customer demands

  • Prototype and test novel designs and production concepts

  • Design, build, and implement custom tooling and manufacturing equipment and processes

  • Conduct thorough research and maintain detailed records of R&D activities

  • Create standardized methods and procedures to improve manufacturing line efficiency–to include internally published work instructions, SOPs, and R&D reports

  • Identify the root causes of manufacturing related issues and perform corrective and preventive action using established problem solving methods

  • Provide direct manufacturing support to troubleshoot and resolve issues and document solutions following GMP

  • Demonstrate excellent time management skills for on-time delivery of assignments

  • Take ownership of and manage projects as assigned

Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficient with CAD/CAM/FEA software (Fusion 360 preferred)

  • Prototyping, to include tools such as mill/lathe, laser cutter, 3D printer, etc

  • Proficiency operating CNC equipment (industrial mill preferred)

  • Solid foundational knowledge of GMP

  • Proficient in creating, reviewing, and editing of relevant technical documents

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Minimum lifting requirement of 20 lbs

Additional Favorable Skills and Knowledge

  • Mechatronics: controls, system integration, automation

  • Programming: C++, Python, MATLAB, etc.

  • Microscopy and related lab experience

  • Image analysis

Typical Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering related discipline and 5 years of related experience or Master's Degree with 3 years of related experience.
